Learn MoreSuggestions to Help Correct Losing Streaks in Poker
You a poker player and you have been on a losing streak at your current level now for about a month. You’re bankroll is at one of its lowest points and you are beginning to wonder why you’re even playing this game. What can you do to fix the situation? Let’s look at a couple of things you can do.
First, step back in stakes. For a lot of players, stepping back in stakes is one of the hardest things for them to do. A lot of this is due to ego. If a person is good enough to play at a certain level, they find it embarrassing to play for lower stakes. Chances are that by moving down to lower stakes that you can book some wins to help boost your self confidence since most of the players will likely play poorly. Also, it is less strain on your already strained bankroll.
Another idea is to take a break from poker altogether. A certain professional poker player I know last year was in a rut where he was not doing well in poker at all. He had one cash in a tournament set in about 6 months, and this person was a full time player. What did he do? He went on vacation with his family to Mexico and didn’t even play a hand of poker for two months. After his time away from the tables, he came back and in the span of 3 days, he won 2 events and finished 3rd in another netting him over $100,000. I’m not saying that a vacation will help you win $100,000, but it may help you get in a better mindset and allow you to play your best.
Whatever you decide to do, when you’re on a losing streak you need to evaluate the situation to see what you can do to fix the problem. Poker is a high variance profession that can have big ups and big downs. Evaluate your play honestly and take proper corrective steps to turn things around so that you don’t end up broke and on the rail.
