The Big Gamble or the Slow Grind

Posted on July 16th, 2009 by Jonathan Sullivan in Blackjack, Gambling

We have all heard many times about ’systems’ when it comes to blackjack and other forms of gambling, but most often it comes back to blackjack, or craps. We see it all the time in movies, how this player or that high roller has the ’system’ to break vegas. I’ve been guilty of it too, thinking I have a system that is unbeatable, which if I follow I’ll remove Lady Luck and come out ahead no matter what.

Unfortunately for most of us this simply isn’t true and we enjoy our game of fun for an hour or so and then head out of the casino with a bit less money. Personally, I think that our individual systems are akin to religious talismans. We invest faith and hope in them and basically they turn into our own sort of personal luck charm.

My friend has the best system of them all though. He goes into the casino, gets his drink, and starts bets one big hand. He doubles his money or loses it all in the spam of moments. He then heads off to the dance floor or the bar. He gets the whole back and forth of gambling done and over with in one big payoff or one big let down, no hours filled with stress and calculation. I think its a pretty good system actually.
