Recently I met someone who I was shocked to learn had gone through gambling addictions. This person was only 17 years old and this started when they were just 14. With the help of the internet, kids as young as 12 and sometimes younger are falling into addictions even with video games.

I guess it makes sense, what with the easy availability of gambling opportunities in Nevada, but I was nonetheless surprised to learn that Nevada’s rate of gambling addiction is more than three times the national average. Seven percent of the residents of Nevada have gambling problems, and there are too few centers to help them.

There has been some recent research to show that some people receiving dopamine agonists in the treatment for Parkinson’s disease develop addictive personalities, most notably to gambling but also to eating, drinking, and sex.
